2019 Sundance Film Festival Rewards Two Arab Movies

Selected among more than 14,000 entries from 152 countries, two Arab films received the prestigious Jury Prize at the 35th Sundance Film Festival, held on January 30 in Utah

The first one is Saudi. Dunya’s Day depicts Dunya, a woman abandoned by her domestic helper in her efforts to organize the perfect graduation evening. Directed by Raed Alsemari, the film won the Jury Prize for Short Film: International Fiction., which is a real feat when you consider that this is the first Saudi film to be shown at the festival.

A Saudi and a Syrian movies rewarded

The second one is Syrian. Aziza tells the lives of Syrian refugees in a 13-minute short film directed by Soudade Kaadan and co-written with May Hayek. This beautiful mot earned the Grand Prix du Jury at the ceremony.
