3 Arab artists you should stream urgently on Spotify

In a recent report, the most famous music streaming platform announced that more and more Western users are listening to artists from North Africa and the Middle East. According to the report, 66 percent of songs by Mena artists are being heard outside the region for the first time. So we’ve selected our favorites, just for you!

Freek

His real name is Mustafa Ismail. Originally from Somalia, Freek is a rapper who lives in Dubai. He built his musical culture around hip-hop by listening to American rappers as well as MCs from Morocco and Algeria.

After discovering the artists Trax and Lil K, pioneers of the Arabian Trap, he decided to adopt this style and try his luck behind the microphone. Today, Freek enjoys an international fanbase and seems to represent the new face of increasingly globalized hip-hop.

Hajaj

This Saudi RnB singer’s real name is Abdul Rahman Hajaj and he became known when his hit Learning to Live With You was featured on a world-famous Spotify playlist.

His album Last Call for Coco, recorded in London, has a very old-school vibe. Even more so when you consider that he recorded it entirely in analog, which requires more precision in execution than the digital method.

ElGrandeToto

Taha Fahssi, better known as ElGrandeToto, is a Moroccan rapper who almost needs no introduction. In fact, he has been the most listened-to artist in the MENA (North Africa and Middle East) region on Spotify, with over 135 million streams in 178 countries. Since his debut in 2018, he has been chaining successful projects, and big collaborations, like with Damso on “Etranger”, or french rapper Lefa on “Ailleurs”.
