Every year, TIME magazine publishes the list of the 100 most influential personalities of the year. This list, divided into five categories, celebrates Pioneers, Artists, Leaders, Icons and Titans from all over the world. In 2019, influential figures from the Middle East are honoring the region.
Mohamed Salah, the Titan
An iconic figure in Egypt and the Arab world thanks to his footballing prowess, Liverpool and Egypt striker Mohamed Salah joined the “Titans” section of the list published by TIME magazine at the age of 26. In the article dedicated to him, the actor and political commentator, John Oliver, underlines the humility and the sometimes thoughtful and sometimes farcical spirit that the player can have despite the pressure generated by his profession.

Mohamed Salah (@mosalah) is one of the 100 most influential people of 2019. "Mo Salah is a better human being than he is a football player," writes John Oliver of @lastweektonight. "And he’s one of the best football players in the world." See the full #TIME100 list at the link in bio, and swipe for a video interview with Salah. Photograph by @paridukovic for TIME. Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed, the Leader
Among the “Leaders” on the list, only one Arab personality is present: Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed. Minutely, the analyst of the risky geopolitical group Stratfor, Ryan Bohl, highlighted the power of the Emirates sovereign and the strength and influence of his political decisions.
“Although the United Arab Emirates is led by President Khalifa bin Zayed, it is his younger brother, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed, who sets the tone. And what are these blows. MbZ attacked its rivals – the Iranians, the Muslim Brotherhood and Qatar – with risky bets: troops in Yemen, a blockade of Qatar and repressive measures interspersed with reforms at home”Ryan Bohl
Rami Malek, the Artist
Actor in the Mr. Robot series, then Oscar-winning actor in the biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek has access to the “Artists” section thanks to his remarkable cinematographic performances. He is a fan but above all a friend, Robert Downey Jr. who wrote his article for TIME magazine : “He is sober and kind, complicated and storable. He is downright mercurial. Crucially, he is a good man who evolves along with his potential. As a fan and friend, I am particularly proud of this.
