Digital characters invade Saudi Arabian landscapes

Imagine coming across a titan straight out of the Japanese anime “Attack of the Titans” behind the mountains of Taif’s Al-Shafa Road, or the Disney princess Aurora in the historic district of Jeddah. Everything becomes possible thanks to the imagination and art of Hazem Al-Ahdal, a young Saudi digital artist who associates famous characters with the historical sites of his country.

At only 26 years old, Hazem Al-Ahdal has created a very special fantasy world inspired by both visual art and cinema. His art merges images of world-famous fictional figures with photographs of landscapes. The cities of Jeddah, Medina and Tabuk have thus become, for example, the dance floors of Beauty and the Beast thanks to the artist’s graphic design skills.

Sublimating reality through fantasy

Hazem Al-Ahdal’s works are usually born from a spontaneous idea. An empty alley is easily filled by the integration of a character that inspires him. On the other hand, his favorite photograph features Countess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Torby, eldest daughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia, in an old market in Tabuk. Hazem chooses his characters according to their history or their discrepancy with the site photographed. In this case, the artist wanted to bring out the fusion between Arab lands and Western civilizations in his art.

By introducing digital art to reality, the graphic designer builds a world without limits that speaks to all lovers of fiction.
