Dubai Gears Up For Expo 2020 With A Helping Hand From Hollywood
Hollywood superstar Chris Hemsworth has been tapped to promote tourism in the United Arab Emirates during the upcoming Expo 2020, according to a new video released by Emirates Airline. The release of the promotional video, which was recorded in 2019, was delayed after the Coronavirus pandemic caused the Expo 2020 event to be held in 2021.
The highly-anticipated campaign finds success at launch
The one-and-a-half minute video campaign, which was directed by Robert Stromberg (whose films include Avatar, Maleficent, and Alice in Wonderland) comes just in time for the hotly anticipated Expo 2020, which opens in Dubai on the First of October. In about 24 hours, it had already racked up almost 60 000 views.
In the video, Hemsworth brings the audience across a litany of landscapes, including the emblematic towers of the city, before entering into a foray of surreal scenes meant to portray the future of humanity. The effects are thanks to the plethora of CGI animations, which enhance the scenes with shots on Mars, smiling trees, and dancing robots. The themes put the audience’s attention on the Expo 2020’s own themes of sustainability, technology, innovation and creativity.
Per a press release, Hemsworth reflected on his experience:
“In 2019, I partnered with Emirates and Expo 2020 Dubai to help bring awareness to what is a really important event for the world. We all have the power to shape a better future, and the last year and a half has shown us that the possibilities are endless when we put our minds together. At Expo 2020 Dubai, the world will come together in the spirit of collaboration to provide real life solutions that will benefit future generations. If you’re able to travel and you feel it’s safe, I sincerely hope you can make it.”
