Egypt Opens Up to Foreign Universities to Boost its Higher Education

A new law has been approved in Egypt allowing foreign universities to settle campuses in the country. This measure aims to boost the offer of higher education in the country.

The bill was presented a year ago but passed through the Parliament only last month. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has just approved the law to authorize foreign campuses to open in the country. It has been well received by students, professors and politicians, who hope to see a new impetus in the field of Egyptian higher education.

More competitiveness to reach a better education

This measure is expected to increase competition among universities, which are free to set their own tuition fees but have to let Egyptian students free to pay it with Egyptian pounds. This should bring down tuitions fees that are very heterogeneous and can vary from $1,850 to $5,000, and that’s only for dentistry faculties. These are big amounts for an Egyptian student.

Opening the country to foreign universities also means that the offer of faculties and subjects will increase, offering better opportunities and rising the level of the existing ones. It will also develop the scientific research and appeal more experts to the country to give Egyptian students excellent international professors.

British universities, as well as Canadian and American ones, are already looking forward to establishing campuses, which show that the country’s attractiveness is experiencing a new impetus.
