Enjoy the Red Sea in a lagoon of 50 virgin islands
Saudi Arabia’s major tourism announcement of the summer came when the Kingdom announced the use of 50 existing islands for an eco-friendly touristic development by the Red Sea.
The massive touristic stop will cover 34,000 square kilometers—some 180 kilometers wide—between the cities of Amlaj and al-Wajh, in the northeastern region of the Kingdom.
Accompanying the huge touristic project are investments ensuring the upgrading and expansion of the region’s local airport, as well as the construction of luxury housing and hotels. Construction begins in the third quarter of 2019, with the first phase to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Heaven on Earth
Perhaps most remarkably, the complex shall be open to foreign tourists, with no visas necessary (otherwise, procedures will be facilitated). Saudis too will be able to enjoy the resort.

The first foreign investor to take part in the adventure will be Sir Richard Branson, CEO of the Virgin group, who expressed, in an article published in late September, his amazement at the natural beauty of the islands and the seabed, as well as their remarkable state of preservation.
