In Cairo, Egypt, Uber Launches a Minibus System to Facilitate Traffic Flow

Drive safer, drive more responsibly. This could be Uber’s motto, as the company launches a new minibus system in Cairo, a city renowned for its chronically congested and polluted urban landscape.

The Uber service, which has already invested $100 million in a customer support center in Cairo, intends to encourage millions of Egyptians to trade their personal cars for carpooling.

Safer and more responsible minibuses

Very popular in Egypt, minibuses already numerous in the capital’s streets, but are often crowded, and sometimes travel at excessive speed, disrespecting passenger safety. With its new offer, Uber hopes to conquer the Egyptians with secure and affordable buses.

The announcement gave ideas to Careem, Uber’s direct competitor in the Middle East. The VTC company has announced that it intends to launch a similar minibus service in the Egyptian capital.
