The Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, whose reputation is now well established, is currently innovating in the treatment of the artistic works it wishes to showcase, with a brand new "video podcast" on the theme of science fiction.
It’s called “We are not alone”, and it’s the latest sound creation of the Soundwalk collective. In this 20-minute auditory “journey”, produced in collaboration with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, we are taken to an era where tenfold intelligence and interstellar travel are normal. The sound is joined by the image, filmed on the physical site of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, in the famous building designed by French architect Jean Nouvel.
A tempting line-up
The cast is amazing. In English, the text is interpreted by none other than actor Willem Dafoe (Platoon, American Psycho, Brooklyn Affairs), in French by Charlotte Gainsbourg (La promesse de l’aube, True Crimes, 21 grams) and in Arabic, by Emirati singer Hussain Al-Jassmi. Seven international personalities actually took part in the project, including Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu, Russian DJ Nina Kraviz, and German director Wim Wenders.
Focused on science fiction, the podcast invites listeners to explore the possibilities of the future, but also to discover the museum, its surroundings, history and to question notions such as free will, human nature, and destiny.
Brave new format
Visually, too, the format is off the beaten track. In an ethereal atmosphere, shots of the museum and its surroundings follow more abstract super close-ups, which fit perfectly with the bewitching soundtrack of the podcast. There is also a full audio version of the podcast available. This is another fresh boost to the museum’s digital offering, which already includes virtual exhibitions and a wide range of downloadable audio and video content.
