Saied Vakilian, a researcher at the Research Center for Medical and Natural Sciences at the University of Nizwa, Oman, appears to have invented a revolutionary bandage to heal wounds. The whole thing is based on… plants and organisms with medicinal properties.

The researcher and his team have assembled chitosan, a component of crustacean shells, with alginate, found on brown algae, to make a natural bandage. After several tests and analyses, it was discovered that this bandage allows wounds to heal more quickly and the skin to heal with less traces. For the scientists, it is a perfect “biocompatibility” between this new bandage and the epidermis of the skin.

This discovery was praised by the Omani Ministry of Education and Research, which awarded Saied Vakilian and his team for this remarkable invention. “It was a great pleasure to receive such an award from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Such events motivate us to continue high quality research with clinical and pharmaceutical applications” said the researcher.
