Saudi Arabia creates a new Culture Ministry
Last Saturday, June 2nd, the official Saudi press agency SPA announced the creation of a Culture Ministery by royal decree, seperated from the Information Ministery from now on.
The cabinet reshuffle, which took place on Saturday, June 2nd, was mainly devoted to cultural development and environment conservation. It ended up with the unprecedented creation of a Culture Ministry, as a distinct institution. This new Ministry is in line with Saudi Vision 2030 plan for the country’s touristic and cultural development.
Young Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan Al-Saud, the former governor of the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, has been appointed as its new minister. This thirty-years-old graduate in Law from King Saoud University in Riyadh and President of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group will now be in charge of numerous other projects, such as the one for the conservation of the Nabataean heritage in Al-Ula, in partnership with France and UNESCO. With this new institution, Saudi Arabia intends to use its cultural sites and heritage as an economic and social development factor.
