Saudi Arabia: Huge success for first women’s golf club

Following the holding of the very first international women’s golf tournament, the sport has the wind in its sails. The “Ladies First Club”, which has just recently opened its doors, already has several hundred registrations.

First the pros, then the amateurs. After the two brand new international women’s golf tournaments that took place on Saudi Arabia’s brand new courses, the excitement around this noble sport has only increased. In this context of hyper enthusiasm, the kingdom is witnessing the creation of its very first women’s golf club for which Saudi women are already more than a thousand to have registered, eager to hit the little white ball.

For the first time ever, the women golfers will compete in a tournament in Saudi Arabia

Saudi women will thus be able to enjoy free golf lessons, physical ones of course, but also in the form of virtual introductory seminars, access to a practice course and full rounds of golf on courses all over the country, such as at the Riyadh Golf Club, the Dirab Golf Club or the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), the very city that hosted the tournaments.

An exponential evolution

It should be remembered that before the holding of these tournaments, women were less than twenty to play golf in Saudi Arabia. Compared to the influx of registrations that the country is experiencing today, we can speak of a dazzling increase. Beyond its most well-known economic and social aspects, Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 societal reform plan is being directly implemented here, as it includes commitments to make the population more active.

A trend confirmed by the Arab golfer Maha Haddioui – one of the 108 professionals participating in Aramco Saudi Ladies International – who said that she was enormously solicited during her visit to the tournament by Saudi women who wanted to know how to register and participate in this new adventure.
