Saudi Arabia Names First Female Ambassador to Washington

The kingdom has just appointed Princess Reema bint Bandar as the country’s ambassador in Washington, USA. This is the first time the Saudi State has appoints a woman as an ambassador.

A committed woman

43-year-old Reema Bint Bandar is far from being a novice on the Saudi and international media scene. The mother of two is known for her commitment to the introduction of sport in public institutions for girls in Saudi Arabia and her breast cancer awareness campaigns.

Known for being a businesswomen with multiple activities, particularly in the luxury industry, she has also long encouraged Saudi women to start their own business.

An American childhood

Reema Bint Bandar has little experience in diplomacy, but her appointment to Washington is no coincidence. Being the daughter of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, Ambassador of Arabia to Washington from 1983 to 2005, Reema Bin Bandar grew up in the United States where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at George Washington University.

Lately, she has been a close advisor to Crown Prince Mohammed ben Salmane, pushing for the reforms undertaken by the Prince as part of Saudi Arabia’s modernization, including the opening of the leadership to women.
