Saudi Arabia: Saudi football coach donates his kidney to one of his sick players

This is a touching story like football knows so many of them.

Youssef Al-Shammari, a player with Jubbah Youth FC, a 3rd division football club in the Saudi League, has suffered from kidney failure for several years and has been forced to suspend his career pending transplantation.

It was finally his coach, Fahad Al-Gharbi, who saved his life by donating one of his kidneys.

A gesture welcomed at the highest levels

This gesture was unanimously hailed by the sport sphere in the country. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), did not hesitate to tweet about it.

“What Fahad Al-Gharbi, captain of the Jubbah junior football team, did when he donated a kidney to a player on his team, was a human and noble gesture… I ask God to reward him. I thank him for his human attitude, which does not surprise me.”
