The longest lunar eclipse of the century

On the night of Friday, July 27 to Saturday, the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century will occur. During one hour and forty three minutes, it will be possible to observe a blood moon. A breathtaking spectacle, visible in full from the Middle East and partly from Europe.

On the evening of Friday, July 27, about thirty minutes after its appearance, the moon will take a ruddy hue, which will let spectators dreaming. And it will be possible to stay like that, with the nose in the air, for no less than an hour and 43 minutes, thus making this lunar eclipse, the longest of the century!

The moon changes color when the sun, Earth and moon perfectly line up. Then, the moon moves into the Earth’s shadow and the sunlight passing through our atmosphere creates a red reflection on the moon.

This time, the eclipse is particularly long since the moon will pass exactly in the center of the Earth’s shadow. This show will be impressive but not blinding and can be seen with naked eyes in its entirety in the Middle East, Central, Southern and Eastern Africa, as well as in India and Central Asia. Europeans, North Africans and South Americans will also have the chance to see the best parts of it. In the meanwhile people in North and Central America will be totally deprived since the moon won’t be raised yet on their side of the globe.
