Tourism boom in Tunisia at the end of July

Numbers are back to pre-Covid levels with Djerba-Zarzis being the most popular destination.

What if you chose Tunisia for the last few weeks of the August holidays? Some three million tourists visited Tunisia from the beginning of the year to the end of July, with over seven million overnight stays.

This was said by Tunisian Minister of Tourism Mohamed Moez Belhassine, on a visit to the governorate of Medenine, writes Tunisian news agency TAP, stressing that these figures are close to those of 2019, the pre-Covid reference year.

Algerian and Libyan markets remain important for Tunisia

The Djerba-Zarzis tourist area ranks first nationwide in terms of reception capacity, workforce and hotel units. Approximately 510,000 tourists visited this region from the beginning of the year until the end of July 2022, while overnight stays reached 2,400,000, or a 218% increase compared to the same period in 2021.

The Algerian and Libyan markets remain important for Tunisian tourism, the minister noted, especially with the reopening of the post-Covid borders. The number of Libyan tourists reached 800,000 arrivals at the end of July 2022, according to the minister.
