The Castoro 12, a pipelay barge for very shallow waters, was completely cut in half lengthwise to be transported between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf to Dubai for work.
This is something you don’t see every day. This huge pipelay barge located in the Caspian Sea had to travel to Dubai to carry out work. However, because it was too large to be transported between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf, it had to be cut in half entirely lengthwise.
After this astonishing industrial “mitosis”, the two separate binoculars were towed over 10,000 km to reach Dubai via the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the Suez Canal. Astonishing images that show to what extent industry adapts to all kinds of constraints…
The barge was then assembled in dry dock in December in Dubai, where completion work is expected to continue for another two months.
