Weam Al Dakheel, first Saudi woman to present news host on TV

After the right to drive a car, the right to be in command of television newscast. Last 20th september, Weam Al Dakheel a young Saudi has made history by presenting for the first time the main evening news bulletin on Saudi TV1.

Weam Al Dakheel became a symbol. Last 20th September, this young Saudi woman has made history in the Saudi kingdom by hosting with his male counterpart Omar Al-Nashwan the evening news bulletin on Saudi channel TV1. A first in the kingdom, which only knew in 2016 Jumanah Alsham, a TV presenter for the morning news which are less acclaimed by Saudis.

Images have traveled around the world and have been hailed by international opinion. This is a major step forward for women in the Saudi Broadcasting scene as Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman and his “Vision 2030” plan aims to modernize the country. Saudi Arabia is also more inclusive, with the goal of increasing the percentage of women in the country’s labor force from 22 to 30 per cent by 2030.

For this first, Waem Al Dakheel made successful television debuts. The Lebanese-American journalist, who graduated from University in 2011 and speaks three languages, has already made her way to the main medias in the region such as CNBC Arabia and Al-Arab News Channel.
