Who is Marc Lasry, the Moroccan billionaire who wants to buy Inter Milan

The pandemic has put a strain on many companies around the world, particularly in China where Suning, owned by the Zhang family and owner of Inter Milan, is heavily in debt. In this context, the name of Marc Lasry has been mentioned as a possible buyer of the Milanese club. But who is this Moroccan billionaire who wants to buy the Nerazzurri?

Marc Lasry was born on 23 September 1959 in Essaouira, Morocco, but emigrated with his family to the United States when he was seven years old. It was there that his luck changed, as he first obtained his degree and then began to work more and more in the financial sector, in various companies, including the one he founded with his sister.

Between the 1990s and 2000s, the man became first a millionaire, then a billionaire, by setting up a hedge fund, which raises capital from particularly wealthy people to invest in companies.

Lasry continued his rise in the business world over the next few years, first in partnership with Donald Trump, whose Trump Entertainment Resorts he oversaw, and then as president and owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, an NBA team that won the title in 2021.

The Nerazzurri are in a poor position in the Italian league (9th) and are now threatened by the financial difficulties faced by their owner, who is heavily in debt and has seen his financial results plummet since the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, the arrival of Lasry, his portfolio and his sporting success could reassure the Milanese tifosi.
