Amazon's ‘Jack Ryan’: Saudi actress lands role in Tom Clancy TV series

Saudi actress Dina Shihabi studied drama in New York before landing a role alongside Hollywood star John Krasinski.

The announcement that the Saudi starlet would feature in the Tom Clancy-inspired series comes after her making over over a dozen appearances in TV, film and theatre. Hollywood star John Krasinski, known for his leading role in US sitcom The Office, plays the titular role of the series Jack Ryan: a CIA analyst who uncovers patterns in terrorist communication.

Riyadh – New York

Dina Shihabi was raised between her native town of Riyadh and Dubai, where by the time she was a 13 year-old girl, she discovered a passion for acting and dancing. At 22, Shihabi moved to New York to study at The Juilliard School to study performing arts before graduating from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts and landing roles on Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Dina has already tackled sensitive roles, including one of an Iraqi immigrant facing deportation in Amira & Sam. Earlier this month, Jack Ryan’s executive producer Carlton Cuse explained during a panel at the New York Comic-Con that while the big budget show would delve into the subject of terrorism, it would not entertain any “demonization of Islamic culture”.
