Yassine Bounou set to join Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s summer mercato plans are being reshuffled as the search for a new goalkeeper becomes urgent.

The Merengues’ main goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has suffered a knee injury, which means he will be out until at least next April, leaving a huge gap to fill. Sevilla’s Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has emerged as the leading candidate for the position.

Growing interest

Initially considered a back-up option even before Courtois’ injury, Bounou is now in the spotlight. Real Madrid’s interest in the Moroccan keeper has intensified. Sevilla are demanding €20 million and negotiations are underway.

Although David De Gea’s name has also been mooted, sources report a clear preference for Bounou in the ranks of the Madrid club.

Bounou’s best season so far

The Moroccan international earned his stripes by helping his Moroccan national team reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup and his team, Sevilla, win the UEFA Europa League, expanding the list of football stars from Arab countries which already include players like Algeria’s Mahrez and Egypt’s Salah.
