Who wants to design the water fountains for Expo 2020?

As part of the preparation for Expo 2020, which will take place next year in Dubai, the organizers and the Art Jameel institution have launched a competition to gather design ideas for the Sabeel, the traditional water coolers of Islamic architecture found in the region.

The competition is called Sabeel 2020 and aims to allow artists, designers, and all other regional creative people to showcase themselves at the Expo 2020 World Expo in Dubai. The call for projects is open to all citizens and residents of the UAE, as well as to certain international profiles that demonstrate an interest in or proximity to the subject.

Then, it is a jury of professionals (architects, designers, etc.) who will have the heavy responsibility of choosing the three best creations, and awarding each winner the coquettish sum of 100 000 AED.

In addition to the money, participants will also have the honor of being funded by and exhibited at Expo 2020, where more than 45 fountains will be spread out and put at the service of visitors. It should be noted that these fountains are then intended to remain on-site permanently

As a partner in this initiative, Art Jameel, a non-profit organization focused on the development of art and culture, is in charge of managing the competition and the composition of the jury. There is no doubt that she will be keen to represent the local art scene as best she can!
