5G soon to arrive in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates’ telecommunications service provider, Etisalat, announced its collaboration with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo to bring 5G to the Emirates.

Faster data, better transmission capacity… The fifth generation of mobile network technology (5G) is certainly highly anticipated. The United Arab Emirates telecommunications service provider, Etisalat, has announced its collaboration with Chinese mobile manufacturer Oppo to soon deliver 5G smartphones to the Emirati market.

”This year is the first year of the 5G’s commercialization and should revolutionize the smartphone industry”

Andy Shi, President of Oppo Middle East and Africa.

According to Zhang Zhi, Oppo’s 5G expert, such collaboration is necessary first to test the compatibility between Oppo’s 5G smartphones and Etisalat’s 5G network. This is an important step forward given that this type of test is the first to be carried out in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

5G is on the move in the United Arab Emirates

While 5G should begin to be deployed in 2020 in Asia and the United States, the Middle East is not to be outdone. A few months ago, the supplier Etisalat said it was ready to launch 5G service in the United Arab Emirates this year. Last February, several of the company’s technical teams installed 600 5G sites to provide 5G coverage across the country.

“Our network and infrastructure will be ready to provide the service as soon as 5G mobile handsets are available in the UAE”
