Facing the winds and tides, the coastal town of Essaouira erects its golden-colored ramparts. These luminous stones protect a multitude of white houses with blue shutters from the waves. It’s a romantic, bohemian setting, revealing the cultural richness of the town nicknamed “the city of the trade winds”.

Today, Essaouira’s ramparts serve as a shield against sea spray. But in the past, they were used to protect the town from invasion. Designed in the 18th century by French architect Théodore Cornut, these fortifications around the medina were inspired by the Breton architecture of Saint-Malo. That’s why we think Essaouira has a touch of Brittany about it!
The fortress now offers a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, the old town, and its emblematic port. A moment suspended in time, where you can glimpse the interplay of narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and lively souks. A unique medina, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

Rich in Arab, Berber and European influences, the city of Essaouira is proud of its roots and the multicultural atmosphere that stems from them. Renowned for its hippie past in the 70s, the Moroccan city has preserved the values of “living together”. This is reflected in the many music festivals held here every year, attracting audiences and artists from the four corners of the globe. The most emblematic of these? The Gnaoua and World Music Festival, which attracts some 300,000 festival-goers over three days. The watchwords? Communion, joy, and sharing.
Another form of art is also expressed in the narrow streets of the medina. Calligraphy, sculpture, tapestry… all the result of boundless creativity, where spirituality and vibrant tones intermingle.

Finally, it’s impossible to mention Essaouira without mentioning its Mediterranean charm. The promise of a day spent admiring the sunset, starting with a seafood platter, followed by a delicious tajine flavored with spices and seasoned with argan oil. With the ocean in the background, of course.
