Amal Mohammad Al-Shihhi, first Emirati woman in the Abu Dhabi cavalry

Amal Mohammad Al-Shihhi is the first woman to join the Abu Dhabi Police Cavalry in the United Arab Emirates, and she is turning the tables on a historically male-dominated field. Portrait of a role model for women around the world.

Amal joined the police force in 2001 and pursued a career in administration and field services before moving into the office of the Director of the Central Operations Sector. She gradually rose through the ranks of the police institution before participating in the talent program organized by the Abu Dhabi Police. Following this participation, Amal joined the Abu Dhabi Cavalry Unit forces, becoming the first woman to be inducted.

She has also been awarded certificates of appreciation for her contribution to the police force, and has also specialized in supporting women victims of domestic violence.

United Arab Emirates commended

Abu Dhabi Police has been repeatedly complimented for increasing the role of women in leadership positions. In 2019, the police won the Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award, a joint UN initiative with the Kingdom of Bahrain to encourage government efforts to empower women.

As such, the UAE has ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and is committed to making gender equality a priority.

The UAE has been a guiding light in women empowerment and has given us the opportunity to promote our credentials on both local and global platforms. Over the next 50 years, I’m sure that women will continue to shine and lead on all fronts”

A model for the emancipation of women

The Expo 2020, which is held in Dubai until next March, has decided to honor Amal Al Shihhi, by exhibiting her portrait among 20 Emirati women designated as examples and pioneers in their respective fields. These photographs can be found in the exhibition “Draped in Heritage” in the Women’s Pavilion, in partnership with the high jewelry brand Cartier.

Dressed in the historic Zay collection, Amal was photographed on horseback, on a mission for the Emirates cavalry.

An encouraging sign for the professional commitment of women in the country, and perhaps an inspiration for other young girls passionate about horseback riding!

”My advice to you is to do your best and join me in this field to show the world what UAE women are capable of.”

Amal Al-Shihhi.
