Arab countries show solidarity with Morocco following devastating earthquake

The 7.0-degree earthquake, located 75 kilometers southeast of Marrakech, triggered a wave of regional and international solidarity with the Kingdom.

In a solemn display of solidarity, several Arab countries have extended their heartfelt condolences to Morocco following a catastrophic earthquake that struck late Friday, claiming the lives of at least 2800 people and leaving 2500 others injured. The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 7.0, marked the strongest tremor to shake Morocco in a century and sent shockwaves of grief across the region.

Most powerful earthquake in a century

The epicenter of the seismic event, which occurred on the 8th of september shortly after 11 p.m. local time (22:00 GMT), was pinpointed 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) southeast of Marrakech, at a depth of 18.5 kilometers. Videos circulating on social media captured the immediate aftermath, revealing residents scrambling to evacuate their trembling homes.

As the news of this devastating natural disaster unfolded, neighboring Arab nations swiftly conveyed their condolences and support to Morocco emphasizing their support and solidarity with Moroccans while numerous expressing their willingness to provide relief aid and assistance to people in the areas affected by the earthquake. Morocco has already accepted urgent relief aid from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
