A world-famous museum

Did you know that the founder of this renowned museum was French? Marie Tussaud (with no “s”) was born in Strasbourg in 1761 and became the first woman to be commissioned by the king’s court to make figures of French personalities of the time, such as the philosophers Voltaire and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

After the French Revolution, she moved to England with her family and exhibited her creations in the store she opened in London in 1835: the Baker Street Bazaar.

Since then, the store became a museum and gained a reputation as a must-see tourist attraction in London, before it was exported to Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Hong Kong or Paris, among others.

But it is only in October 2021 that the museum finally settles in the Middle East, more precisely in the Emirates, in the city of all entertainments: Dubai!

Wax statues of regional celebrities

Among the world personalities usually represented, such as Lady Gaga, Will Smith or the Beckham couple, we find at the Madame Tussauds of Dubai the wax statues of regional stars, such as the Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram, or the weightlifter Amna Al Haddad.

Sanaz Kollsrud, general manager of the Dubai museum, said that it took more than a year and a half to select the celebrities who would be represented.

The opening of the new museum is expected to be a great success, especially with the Dubai World Expo attracting many visitors from around the world.
