Morocco’s automotive sector has achieved a significant milestone, with exports exceeding 141.76 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $13.9 billion) by the end of December 2023, marking a robust increase of 27.4% compared to the previous year.
“From simple vehicle assembly to a comprehensive production powerhouse”
According to the latest monthly bulletin from the Office d’Exchange (OE), the country’s foreign trade watchdog, this notable upswing in automotive exports is largely attributed to increased sales in construction segments (up by 12.48 billion dirhams), automotive wiring (up by 11.32 billion dirhams), and powertrain components (up by 2.29 billion dirhams). Since its inception in 1957, Morocco’s automotive industry has transitioned from simple vehicle assembly to a comprehensive production powerhouse. The automotive wiring harness industry, in particular, has seen a 32% increase in exports, reaching 46.1 billion dirhams ($4.5 billion), driven by global demand for complex electrical systems in vehicles.
