Morocco’s Taoufik Allam wins Dublin Marathon

Moroccan Taoufik Allam won Sunday the Dublin Marathon in two hours 11 minutes and 30 seconds, two minutes 29 seconds ahead of his Ethiopian runner-up Ashenafi Boja.

Moroccan long-distance runner Taoufik Allam, 33, crossed the halfway point in 1:07:03 alongside runner-up Boja and another Ethiopian, Birhanu Teshome. Together until the 30th kilometer, the trio split when the Moroccan went on the offensive, gaining a one minute and 43-second lead over Boja at the 40-kilometer mark. Allam continued to extend his lead in the final kilometer, with his second half of the race nearly three minutes faster than his first 21 kilometers.

The Moroccan runner thus stands out in the first edition of the Dublin Marathon since 2019, as the global pandemic Covid-19 has led to the cancellation of the event in 2020 and 2021. Note that more than 25,000 runners were on the starting line. A significant performance for the marathoner.
