The hope of a return to the Oscars
Ben Hania, whose previous work “The Man Who Sold His Skin” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2020 is no stranger to the Oscars, as her same movie also made it to the festival’s shortlist in 2021.
To adhere to the Oscars’ eligibility criteria, films must have been released in their country of origin between December 1, 2022, and October 31, 2023. Film enthusiasts can anticipate the announcement of the shortlist of 15 films on December 21, with the final five nominees revealed in early January 2024. For Tunisia’s entry, the selection process involved a national jury consisting of Makhlouf Ben Hafsia, Khadija Lemkacher, Afef Ben Mahmoud, Leila Bouzid, Alaeddine Slim, and Mokhtar Laajimi.
