What Muslims can’t do during Ramadan

It’s that time of the year again, when Muslims around the world gear up for the holy month of Ramadan. It’s known that Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer and charity. But did you know that there are certain things that Muslims are not allowed to do during this month?

1. Eating

During Ramadan, Muslims are required to fast from dawn until dusk. No food, no gums, no mints, no nothing! For those observing Ramadan, you better fill up on those breakfast pancakes before dawn because once the sun comes up, it’s fasting time.

2. Drinking

Yes..not even water. If you observe Ramadan, make sure to hydrate yourself before the sun comes up. If you’re not Muslim, don’t be too surprised if your Muslim friends are a little bit grumpy during the day. Maybe they’re just thirsty!

3. Smoking

During the sunny hours of the day, smoking is a big no-no. And that includes e-cigarettes and shisha as well. So if you’re a smoker, use this month as an opportunity to kick the habit for good. Trust us, your lungs will thank you.

4. Having sex

Yes, you read that right. Muslims fasting during Ramadan are not allowed to engage in any sexual activity during the daylight hours. So if you’re Muslim, use this month to focus on your spiritual growth, and save the romance for after sunset.

5. Lying

It’s always good to be truthful, but especially during Ramadan. No fibbing allowed. Maybe it’s time to squeeze some truths out of your dearest muslim friends.
