Zidane soon in Saudi Arabia?

Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian football club, is seeking a new coach after dismissing Rudi Garcia, and they have set their sights on two high-profile candidates: José Mourinho and Zinedine Zidane.

Dazzling proposals

Marca reports that Al Nassr is willing to pay Zidane €60m ($65m) a year for two seasons to take the helm of the club. Negotiations are reportedly underway, with Ronaldo approving either manager. Mourinho, currently manager of Roma in Italy’s Serie A, was offered a similar sum to take over from departed Rudi Garcia. The “Special One”has also been linked with a $124m contract to manage Saudi Arabia’s national team.

Zidane, who has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, is keen to return to coaching and has been linked with several high-profile positions, including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Juventus, and a potential return to Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti leaves his position.

However, despite the potential financial windfall, it remains to be seen if Zidane or Mourinho will be interested in the Al Nassr position. The Saudi club believes that its signing of Cristiano Ronaldo has opened the doors for high-profile football talent to choose Saudi Arabia over other European or international opportunities.

Stiff competition in the Saudi pro league

Al Nassr is currently in second place in the Saudi Pro League, three points behind Al Ittihad with seven games left in the season. Garcia left the club by mutual agreement after reports of growing dissent against him, and it all came to a head when Al Nassr were poor in their goalless draw against a struggling Al Feiha.

Ronaldo, who has scored 11 goals in ten top-flight matches since joining Al Nassr, was involved in a verbal confrontation with Al Feiha’s Ali Al Zaqaan at the end of the match. Some Spanish outlets reported that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star complained to Al Nassr officials about Garcia’s tactical plans and approach to matches.
