5 cities to visit in Egypt

A holiday in Egypt is a promise to be amazed. Discover this country through its mythical river, the Nile, the frenzy of its capital, the grandeur of its ancient monuments and the beauty of its beaches. Here are 5 must-see cities in Egypt!

1 – Cairo: what to do in the capital city ?

Busy, dense and, let’s face it, a bit noisy, the capital of Cairo deserves its place in the top 5 cities to visit in Egypt. And for good reason, it holds one of the country’s most beautiful archaeological jewels: the Giza plateau. A breathtaking place, where the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Temple of the Valley take us back to the time of the pharaohs. But to get a glimpse of what life in Cairo is really like, you have to get lost in the alleys of the Islamic quarter, the Coptic quarter and visit the mosques. This is where the heart of the Egyptian capital beats, with its typical atmosphere and friendly people. For a quiet moment, head to the chic and bohemian district of Zamalek. Here you will find many art galleries, trendy boutiques and cosy cafes to enjoy a drink on the terrace.

2 – Louxor: where to go for a walk?

A small city located 700 kilometres south of Cairo, Luxor is a must-see for history buffs. Formerly known as Thebes, Luxor is home to several nuggets dating back to antiquity. The first site to visit is certainly Karnak, with its large columns decorated with hieroglyphs, its obelisk and its statues. Then, go to the Valley of the Kings where the tombs of the royal families are located, including those of Ramses II, Akhenaten and Tutankhamun.

3 – Aswan: what to see ?

Another city to visit in Egypt: Aswan. Between religious heritage, historical monuments and felucca rides on the Nile, this Egyptian city at the gateway to Nubia has everything to please. The must-see monument? The temple dedicated to Isis, goddess of love, located on the small island of Philae. One of the most beautiful and best preserved in the country! To get there, you have to go to the south of the city and take a boat.

4 – Alexandria: which sites to visit ?

With its strong cultural potential, Alexandria is one of the cities to see in Egypt. It is known for its lighthouse built in the 3rd century BC, but also for its great library. Built between 1995 and 2002, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has a capacity of 8 million books and is spread throughout the Mediterranean basin. A must-see for any stay in Alexandria! Finally, don’t miss the fortress of Qaitbay, built like a sand castle on the Mediterranean. A pure jewel.

5 – Hurghada: what are the essentials?

If you’re more of a sandy beach and palm trees person, head to the coastal town of Hurghada. Situated on the shores of the Red Sea, it offers a breathtaking holiday in the sun. Enjoy swimming in crystal clear water and exploring the seabed. The best spot for diving? Giftun Island with its breathtaking underwater jungle. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some turtles!
