Africa: After Egypt, Facebook’s “Blood Donor” feature comes to Tunisia

Facebook has launched a new feature on its platform, allowing people to be informed of the donation opportunities offered by nearby blood banks. Already used in Egypt, it he tool is now available for Tunisian users.

100 million people already registered for this feature 

The social networking giant, Facebook, recently announced that more than 100 million people worldwide have signed up for its blood donation feature.

The tool, first launched in India in 2017, allows people on the platform to be notified of donation opportunities at nearby blood banks.

New arrival of the tool in Tunisia

And good news! This Tuesday, the platform revealed that the feature had now arrived on Tunisian soil, a development that took place with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and the National Center for Blood Transfusion (CNTS) for 

The goal? Encourage more and more people to give blood. In this context, the blood center communicates on this new tool in order to motivate people to register and receive notifications on blood donation opportunities for needy patients 

As of this week, all Facebook users in Tunisia, aged between 18 and 65 years old, have been able to register on the platform to receive notifications about donation opportunities in their vicinity.

An easy-to-use application

When licensed blood donation centers need donors, they can post messages on Facebook allowing people to contact them directly from there. 

Our platform aims to standardize the blood donation process and encourage people to give blood. We are very proud of the support it can provide to blood banks and see this partnership as critically important at a critical time” says Khaled Koubaa, Facebook’s public policy manager in North Africa.

As we raise awareness about important issues such as Covid-19, we hope this initiative will help those in need, and especially help blood banks gather the necessary stock of blood bags.”
