For the first time ever, the women golfers will compete in a tournament in Saudi Arabia

The professional tour of women golfers stops this Thursday at King Abdullah Economic City with the Aramco Saudi Ladies International. It is the first time that the kingdom hosts a golf tournament of this scale, especially for women.

A week of women’s golf in Saudi Arabia

The big names of women’s pro golf will meet in Saudi Arabia to compete in the Aramco Ladies International Ladies Tournament as part of the Ladies European Tour, a tour equivalent to the WTA Women’s Tennis Ranking for golf. The protagonists will play on the green of the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in the Economic City of King Abdullah. This unprecedented event will be televised to 340 million homes.

In total, prestige and $500,000 in rewards are up for grabs for the participants of this marathon week during which world-renowned golfers will compete to see who can score the most par, birdie, or eagle shots.

An event supported by the authorities

While the Kingdom is going through, like other countries around the world, a difficult health situation, the government has supported this opportunity, thus inscribing the Arab state in a progressive approach to promote women’s sports instigated for several years.

President the Saudi Golf Federation Majed al-Sorour also expressed his pride and gratitude to the Kingdom’s government for supporting this project at a time when the coronavirus pandemic is raging: “First of all, we must thank the Crown Prince for giving us the opportunity to organize the event”.

The tournament will take place in the strictest respect of sanitary measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Drastic security measures will also be put in place.

With the organisation of this women’s tournament, the kingdom confirms its policy of opening up to the world and modernising its society, which began a few years ago. Al-Sorour seems to be nodding in this direction: “Look at Saudi Arabia transforming itself. We are ready to go there. We’re ready to do business. We are open to the world. And it will only get better from now on.
