Horizon, the new Netflix documentary that sheds light on biodiversity in Saudi Arabia

A new documentary titled “Horizon Saudi Arabia” has made its debut on Netflix, offering audiences around the world a look into the biodiversity of Saudi Arabia. Released on January 4, 2024, the film is part of the Konoz initiative to document the country’s cultural richness.

Directed by Lilou Lemaire, the documentary aims to present the Kingdom’s efforts in conserving its natural heritage. During its screening, the initiative announced new partnerships with eight local and international media and artistic entities. 

The documentary explores a series of the Kingdom’s natural landscapes, including its coral reefs around the Red Sea. It also explores the country’s highlands in the Asir region.

The biggest country in the Middle East

Saudi Arabia is the largest by surface area in the Middle East, covering an area of 2.15 million square kilometers. As such, it is home to a wealth of biodiversity, which Horizon Saudi Arabia is seeking to highlight. The film features the work of an international team of wildlife documentation experts, alongside contributions from 13 Saudi researchers.
