Lyna Khoudri, the new rising star of French cinema

Wednesday, June 23, saw the release of Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh’s first feature film, a friendship that goes back to their days at Science Po. And the least we can say is that the main actress, Lyna Khoudri, is a real star.

Young French-Algerian actress, Lyna Khoudri is not at her first try. She had already made the news at the beginning of June for her appearance in Wes Anderson’s film, The French Dispatch, presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2021. Last year, she was awarded “most promising actress” for her role in Papicha.

She is back on the big screen in the first feature film of a French duo of friends, Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, which evokes the destruction of the Youri Gagarine housing estate in Ivry-sur-Seine.

Lyna Khoudri plays the role of Diana, a teenage girl from the Traveller community who befriends a local resident, Youri. He does everything in his power to save Gagarine from destruction. She accompanies him in his quest and helps him to transform the housing estate into a place for spatial dreaming.

But this is only the beginning of the year for the actress, with four other films scheduled for 2021: November by Cedric Jimenez, The Three Musketeers: Milady by Martin Bourboulon, The Magnificent by Nadir Ioulain and Houria by Mounia Meddour. A beautiful end of year in perspective…
