Tunisia: an invention turns air into drinking water

Tunisian engineers have just developed a technology that creates drinking water from… ambient air. This invention could be a sustainable solution to alleviate the scarcity of drinking water in the country and elsewhere.

Replicating the morning dew

Kumulus-1, the technology presented by the company of the same name, reproduces the phenomenon of morning dew. By capturing the humidity in the air and condensing it, the machine transforms it into water. Upstream, a cleaning filter removes pollutants from the air to ensure the drinkability of the liquid that emerges.

A sustainable solution for a global challenge

The first machine, similar to a large white cube, was installed in a school in the rural town of El Bayadha, a landlocked area on the border with Algeria where access to water remains limited. Welcomed as a miracle solution, the new water source is considered a real hope, in that it is capable of producing up to 30 liters of water per day.

However, the machine cannot be used for the moment. At least, not before its approval by the Tunisian authorities. However, if this test proves to be positive, Kumulus-1 would become a revolutionary tool!
