5 Arab sportswomen to follow in 2020

Because they have made their mark in 2019 by establishing themselves as the best, or most promising in their discipline, KAWA presents some of the sportswomen in the Arab world who will attract the most light in 2020.

Ons Jabeur

During 2019, the Tunisian tennis player became the highest-ranked Arab woman in history, after reaching 51st place in the WTA rankings in September. She is also the first and only one to have reached the third round of a grand slam. Her spectacular and unique style makes her one of the public’s favorites.

Rabbi Arafi

The 28-year-old Moroccan runner is to be closely watched as she is likely to take the lead at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. 5th in the world in the 1500m and 13th in the 800m, she has won at various events in 2019, such as the Diamond League Event in Shanghai where she set the new world best time. To be watched closely.

Sarah Essam

Sarah Essam is the first Arab football player to make it into a European league. After winning the Golden Shoe last year, she returns to join her Stoke City team-mates in a bid to win the women’s Premier League. The young prodigy made her debut for the Egyptian national team when she was just 16 years old.

Maha Haddioui

The 31-year-old Moroccan golfer is the first Arab woman to get her ticket for the Women’s European Tour. Maha Haddioui, who has finished in the top 20 twice this season, and is ranked 60th in the round rankings, is also very active for the development of her sport in her region.

Raneem El Welily

The star of Egyptian squash is an unmistakable figure in our ranking. She has just managed the feat of completing a full year as world number one in the ranking, which she has held since September 2015. No doubt that in 2020, she will be looking for revenge for her defeat in the world championship final against her rival, friend, and current world number two, Nour El Sherbini.
