At 19, this Jordanian tennis player makes history in his country

Abedallah Shelbayh became the first Jordanian tennis player to reach a challenger tournament final.

Abedallah Shelbayh, a 19 year old Jordanian ranked 399th in the world, was a finalist in the Manama Challenger Tournament in Bahrain on Sunday but lost the final to Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (ranked 97th in the world) 6-1 6-4.

However, the young tennis player made history in his country by becoming the first Jordanian to reach the final of a challenger tournament.

A player from Rafael Nadal’s academy

Interesting detail, Shelbayh was trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy, the tennis academy founded by Spanish champion Rafael Nadal.

This Wednesday, the youngster will receive a wild card to compete in the ATP 250 in Doha, Qatar, and will make his ATP tournament debut. His first match will be on Tuesday against South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon.
