One of its most serious competitors will undoubtedly be none other than this Israeli short film that does not hesitate to tackle the issue of racism in the country. 3 – The Man Who Sold His Skin, by Kaouther Ben Hania

This feature film starring Monica Bellucci is the very first Tunisian film to be nominated in the international film category. It tells the story of a Syrian refugee who accepts to have a visa tattooed on his back in order to join the Schengen area and thus join his girlfriend living in Europe.

4 – The Hunger Guard, by Skye Fitzgerald

This American production follows a health care team working against the famine generated by the war in Yemen. The documentary is the third part of a trilogy that deals with the political and humanitarian issues of the region from different angles (in this case, food security).

5 – The White Tiger, by Ramin Bahrani

In the best adaptation category, this film on Netflix tells the story of a poor Indian villager who became a successful entrepreneur. An ambitious driver, he was able to make his mark in modern India and carve out an impressive life path. The story is adapted from the novel of the same name, which was awarded a Booker prize, a very high distinction in literature
