Bafé Gomis is the new top scorer in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has its new top scorer! After two years of bowing to the impressive performances of Moroccan Abderrazak Hamed-Allah, Bafétimbi Gomis finishes this season at the top of the Saudi league’s top scorers.

Arriving at Al-Hilal FC in 2018, Bafétimbi Gomis wasted no time in winning the hearts of the fans. After two seasons at the club, the French striker has won a number of collective titles, including becoming the first Frenchman to win the Asian Champions League in 2019, finishing as top scorer that year.

He also won twice the Saudi championship with Al-Hilal, in 2020 and 2021, as well as the Saudi Arabian Cup in 2020. A Middle Eastern adventure that has not been short of titles for the man nicknamed The Panther

The quest for excellence 

But a striker always seeks to be the best possible, also on a personal basis. Gomis has never managed to top the scoring charts before, outclassed every year by Moroccan Abderrazak Hamed-Allah, who plays for Al-Nassr.

This year, it is finally done! With 24 goals, including 8 penalties, in 30 games played, “Bafé” Gomis is ahead of his first competitor, the Argentine Emilio Jose Zelaya, by six lengths.  At 35 years old, the Panther still has sharp teeth…
