Lebanon: When fashion joins forces with UNICEF for the children of Beirut
The past year has been a tragic one for the Lebanese population. In addition to the August 4th explosion in the port of Beirut, the economic collapse of the country, mass protests and the coronavirus pandemic are all problems that our international community cannot ignore. That’s why Lebanese designer Elie Saab decided to launch a new charity initiative, dedicated to vulnerable children, through UNICEF Lebanon.
An artistic sector in solidarity with the Lebanese population
Elie Saab is not the first hero of the artistic world to want to help the Lebanese people, and already many public figures and associations are working to help and support, every day, this country in great difficulty.
In August of last year, fashion designer Zuhair Murad, a native of Ras Baalbek, released a T-shirt bearing the text “Rise From the Ashes“, with 100% of the profits going to Offrejoie, a Lebanese non-governmental organization
An initiative to support the education and welfare of vulnerable adolescent girls
The famous fashion designer Elie Saab was born in Beirut in 1964. At the age of 9, he became interested in fashion and started to draw patterns and create outfits. Strongly attached to his country of origin, the artist wished to help and support the Lebanese population, particularly through a new initiative in partnership with UNICEF.
Thus, his company, Elie Saab Parfums, has pledged to donate a portion of the sales from the house’s 10th anniversary campaign to UNICEF’s “Integrated Education and Well-Being of Vulnerable Girls in Lebanon” program, to ensure that high-risk adolescent girls have access to education and many other services.

“I admire UNICEF’s mission to support the most vulnerable groups and provide a strong platform for young people. In these challenging times and in this competitive world, we must raise resilient children to prepare them for a better future” Saab said in a statement.
The program, launched by the international association UNICEF, provides all Lebanese youth with the education they need, as well as access to protection and anti-gender-based violence services, a skills development and employability program, and health services dedicated to adolescents with mental health problems.
“By giving them the time and opportunities they need, teaching them the right skills and empowering them, they will cultivate good qualities and secure a better life” says the designer.
Indeed, for too many children in Lebanon, access to education and health services has become extremely difficult due to the dramatic increase in poverty. And in an attempt to survive, more and more children are put at risk by exploitation, child labor and child marriage…
