Fully green cabs by 2027: Dubai moves towards a sustainable future
Dubai is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world, with a dynamic transportation system to match. To keep up with its aspirations to become a leader in innovation and sustainability, the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has endorsed a plan to make the city’s taxi fleet 100% environmentally friendly by 2027.
The plan includes both the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and franchise company taxis. This transformation was launched by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and results directly from the Green Economy drive, and the Dubai Government’s strategic direction towards comprehensive environmental sustainability.
Great strides towards sustainability
The RTA has made remarkable progress so far, with 72% of Dubai’s cabs already green, including a total of 8,221 hybrid vehicles.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said, “We have taken decisive action towards creating a safe, clean and sustainable environment that befits Dubai’s reputation. This initiative supports the Dubai Government’s efforts to introduce green vehicles and promote a cleaner environment”
“This significant accomplishment aligns with the overarching goal of optimizing energy usage, creating a sustainable environment, and positioning Dubai as a leader in promoting green transportation,” Al Tayer added.
