The Mauritanian: Tahar Rahim on the verge of taking it all?
In Kevin Macdonald’s next film, Tahar Rahim embarks on a year 2021 that could be the year of international consecration, with a nomination for the Golden Globes, another for the BAFTA Awards, and the Oscars in the line of sight.
The Mauritanian is Kevin Macdonald’s latest film. This fast-paced thriller, scheduled for release in 2021, has an enticing cast, with Jodie Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch and Shailene Woodley in the cast, as well as the Frenchman Tahar Rahim, in the title role.
The film is adapted from the memoirs “The Guantánamo Notebooks” by Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian detained in the Guantánamo camp, accused of being involved in the attacks of September 11, 2001.
From Cesars to Oscars
In full ascent, the French actor of Algerian origin, who won two Césars (French Academy Award) for his role of Malik el Djebena in A Prophet by Jacques Audiard, is now piling up international projects, after his roles in Marie Madeleine and Damien Chazelle’s series The Eddy, released on Netflix a few months ago.
He has already been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actor and a BAFTA Award. And who knows, the Oscars may not be far behind…
